Weather has its say once more, but fish keep coming

The weather is the talking point at LOCH LEVEN once again as conditions turned cooler, thundery and very wet.

The loch has risen by about 16 inches in a week with some nice fish recorded.

Alan Campbell and Ian Simpson had nine trout, all returned at or very near the surface, fishing into the point of St Serfs Island in a very brisk South West wind.

The best fish was estimated at 6lb, returned and caught again near to the top just South East of Reed Bower by Willie Wilson.

On Sunday Kinross Angling Club had 31 trout for their four boats in awful conditions.

The fish were on the top and were taken using traditiona­l flies on low density lines.

Pike anglers have been still struggling but Alexandre Ivain, out with his two sons, had three on dead bait.

There have been some great returns again at FRANDY.

Individual boat anglers who did well included Drew Carrie (Kilmarnock) and Alex Keith (Paisley) who kept 10 fish weighing 19lb while Russell McAllister and party kept 11 fish weighing 20lb 14oz.

On the club front, Grangemout­h AC had 20 fish for 43lb, Dunfermlin­e Rusty Nail AC 24 fish weighing 50lb, Brechin AC kept seven fish weighing 12lb 14oz, Kelty Artisan AC had three fish for 5lb and the Rainbow Warriors AC had 13 fish weighing 28lb 6oz.

The best catching flies were the damsel, Kate McLaren, bibio hopper, and the sedge muddler while the best areas were in the middle to the far shore and the dam wall.

On Saturday the Kilsyth Club caught 32 fish for 99lbs 4oz at ORCHILL FISHERY, with R Thomson winning with three fish for 14lb 8oz. The Eagle Club from Tillicoult­ry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage having the top bag with three fish for 12lbs; his best fish 6lbs on a bloodworm.

On Sunday, Alexander Buses AC had 21 fish for 53lbs 8oz – the heaviest basket – and S Bennie had four fish for 12lbs, with his best 4lbs 12oz on a bright green buzzer.

Water levels spiked at FORBES OF KINGENNIE over the weekend and many of the fishing platforms were submerged.

The boathouse pool has been rather discoloure­d but has still produced some decent returns. Kevin Tarrant returned nine fish including a nice rainbow estimated at 9lbs and Andy Rutherford had a fine short session releasing eight fish, taken on a mixture of flies.

Jock Leslie certainly read the conditions on the bankside pool and got the correct method to return 21 fish on Dries and Buzzers.

Powerbait fished about 1.50m deep beneath a float has again produced the best results on the woodside pool. On Wednesday 18 trout were taken for a total of 30lbs, on Thursday 17 fish were landed for a combined weight of 35lbs and on Sunday 14 fish were taken for a total of 31lbs.

The Strathmore Angling Improvemen­t Associatio­n held its annual Magnus Crowe competitio­n at LINTRATHEN, attended by 10 clubs.

The overall winner of the competitio­n was W Meldrum of Monifieth AC with four fish for 5 lbs 10oz D Mackintosh Canmore AC came second with two fish for 4 lbs 7oz.
