Stars show promise in series victory

-

Dundee Stars showed plenty of promise in their two preseason games against Danish side Odense Bulldogs over the weekend.

Stars took first blood on Saturday night as they came from 1-0 down to win 4-2.

Goals from Kevin Dufour, Brett Stovin (2) and Colton Kroeker helped Stars to the win and netminder Alex Leclerc was unlucky to concede the two goals that he did.

Vojtech Komarek and Asger Petersen provided the two goals for Odense but the Danish were unable to stop a hungry Stars side that netted all four goals in the third period in a game that had a strong physical element throughout.

Elgin Pearce was the only Star missing on Saturday but he did arrive in time to be welcomed by the Dundee fans at the first intermission as he walked out on to the ice.

The Canadian forward made his debut last night and it was all Stars in the opening minutes.

Jagger Dirk put the puck in the net after just 28 seconds but a premature whistle meant it was disallowed.

However, the Canadian did open the scoring two minutes later.

The rest of the Dundee goals came from Stovin and Dufour, who scored a hat-trick.

The Bulldogs were 3-1 down after the first period with Christopher Kamph getting them on the board but Henry Hardarson, Frederik Benjaminsen and Mikkel Jensen brought Odense level at 4-4 after two.

Yannick Vedel put Pelle Svensson’s side ahead early in the third before Dufour’s third tied it.

However, Petersen netted the winner with less than three minutes to play and that tied the series at one game apiece.

A penalty shoot-out decided the winner and only Dundee’s Craig Gans could find the net as Brython Preece and Nicolai Kristiansen prevented every other shooter from scoring.

Fife Flyers opened their season by sharing a two-game series with Danes Herlev Eagles.

Fife won 4-3 after overtime on Saturday, but Eagles edged it 5-4 last night, also after overtime.
