Meigle lose for first time in league at Perth Doocot

-

The Strathmore and Perthshire League was full of entertainment and surprises on one of the best days of a league devastated throughout the summer by weather.

League winners Meigle lost for the first time in the competition at Perth Doocot.

The hosts batted first at Doocot Park and found runs elusive against a tight Meigle bowling attack but, thanks to a half century from Usman Saeed, they reached 142-9.

It is not the sort of target that would normally challenge the title winners but with Jonathan Hill taking 3-22 and Ivor Patterson mopping up with 3-6, the rest could only muster 22 in a total of 75 as Doocot kissed goodbye to their 100% record with a 67-run defeat.

There was also plenty of entertainment at Countesswells with ASI Gordonians rattling up 215 all out.

However, Falkland’s Darren Pearce, who had taken 4-29, then raced to 53 with the bat while Harsh Cooray clinched the game for Falkland with an unbeaten century as they got to 216-5 with an over to spare.

Dundee HSFP totalled 192-9 against ion8 Forfarshire 2nd thanks to 80 not out from Zahir Rasheed.

But Graeme Garden was there at the end with a 107 to give the home side the win with 10 balls and five wickets to spare.

Mannofield and Strathmore provided some pretty nifty cricket as well at Mannofield with the home side batting first and setting a target of 230 and despite a powerful chase, second in the table Strathmore fell 23 runs short, losing their final wicket with the last ball with 207 on the board.

Arbroath United finished with a flourish at Lochlands as they completed a miserable campaign for Kinloch with a 34-run win.

They set a target of 164, with the Kinloch bowling damage done by Ahmed’s 4-37.

Craig Ross took three wickets for 26 and enjoyed good back-up from Ryan Cameron as Kinloch were back in the pavilion for 128 in just under 34 overs.
