Tayport hit for seven in heaviest ever defeat

JUNIORS: Fife side two ahead only for Dokens to hit goal trail in bizarre game

- PETER RUNDO

It was a black day for Tayport as they crashed to the club’s heaviest ever defeat on the wrong end of 7-3 scoreline at home to North End.

In a bizarre affair, the Port contrived to turn a two-goal lead into humiliation.

Struan Christie gave the home side a first minute lead and a minute later North End missed a penalty. Tayport quickly scored a second through Dayle Robertson.

However, a Gary Sutherland double brought the visitors level and Ryan Smith put them ahead five minutes from the break.

Early in the second half North End were awarded a second penalty, but debutant keeper Marc Mackie again saved the spot-kick, only for Paul Lunan to ram home the rebound.

The hapless hosts soon lost a fifth, Frankie Devine scoring, but a fine goal by Robertson reduced the leeway.

Port’s troubles deepened when Craig Sturrock was sent off, but he was bizarrely then shown yellow after a linesman’s intervention. In the meantime, Robertson had an altercation with his team-mate and ended up being the recipient of a red card after the intervention of the opposite linesman.

Sutherland netted a sixth for North End and in time added on Liam McCartney completed Port’s humiliation.

Carnoustie Panmure remain top of the table after edging out Luncarty but only courtesy of a late winner at Brownlands Park.

Ahead through Ryan Dignan after nine minutes, Gordon McDonald doubled the Gowfers’ advantage on 49 minutes.

But the Bleachers stormed back to level thanks to two Fraser Mills strikes, only for a second McDonald goal to snatch victory two minutes from time.

Lochee United were 4-0 winners at home to Broughty Athletic.

Scott McComiskie put the Bluebells in front after three minutes, with the hosts waiting until midway through the second half to increase their lead. McComiskie netted a penalty after the Fed’s Kieran Conway had been redcarded.

Graham Hay turned a Grant Lawson cross into his own net for number three with Stephen McNally scoring the fourth with a couple of minutes left.

Downfield came back to draw 1-1 at home to Forfar West End but missed a golden opportunity to take all three points.

West End took a first half lead through Robbie George on 18 minutes but were pegged back by a Lee Cameron strike on the hour-mark and were then handed a reprieve when Cameron missed a penalty.
