Joelinton stuns Spurs with Magpies’ winner

PREMIER LEAGUE: Newcastle’s record signing begins payback

-

Record signing Joelinton scored his first goal in English football as Newcastle pulled off a shock 1-0 win at Tottenham.

The Brazilian striker controlled a pass from substitute Christian Atsu in the 27th minute before firing past Hugo Lloris.

Spurs were convinced they should have had a late penalty when Harry Kane went down under a challenge from Jamaal Lascelles, but referee Mike Dean waved away their appeals and was backed up by VAR.

David Silva marked his 400th Manchester City appearance with two assists and Sergio Aguero scored twice as the Premier League champions returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

Experienced Spaniard Silva laid on goals either side of half-time for Raheem Sterling and Aguero to help Pep Guardiola’s side bounce back from last weekend’s frustrating draw with Tottenham.

Bournemouth substitute Harry Wilson briefly gave the hosts hope by reducing the deficit to 2-1 with a stunning 25-yard free-kick in first-half stoppage time.

Raul Jimenez rescued a point for Wolves from a 1-1 draw with Burnley with his penalty deep into stoppage time at Molineux.

Burnley looked set to claim all three points thanks to Ashley Barnes’s stunning volley on 13 minutes, only for Erik Pieters to clip Jimenez in the box in the dying seconds.

The decision was checked and confirmed by VAR and Jimenez held his nerve to send goalkeeper Nick Pope the wrong way.

Mohamed Salah scored twice as leaders Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday.

Joel Matip headed Liverpool in front four minutes before the break, and Salah benefited from two David Luiz errors to give the hosts a 3-0 lead.

Lucas Torreira struck a consolation goal for the Gunners.

Manchester United suffered further spot-kick misery as Crystal Palace stunned them with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Patrick Van Aanholt secured Palace’s first Premier League victory over United, beating David De Gea in the third minute of stoppage time.

Jordan Ayew had fired Palace ahead, but Wales winger Daniel James looked to have rescued a point for United two minutes from time.

United were below par throughout and missed a penalty for the second successive match.

After Paul Pogba’s miss at Wolves on Monday, Marcus Rashford took over the spot-kick duties after Scott McTominay was tripped in the box by Luka Milivojevic. But the England striker struck a post with his effort and the ball bounced to safety.

Tammy Abraham hit his first Premier League goals as Chelsea edged a thrilling encounter at Norwich to give manager Frank Lampard his first win.

Academy product Abraham started and finished the scoring as the visitors secured a 3-2 victory in East Anglia.

Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki twice equalised for the hosts during a breathless 45 minutes after Mason Mount had restored Chelsea’s advantage with his second of the season.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy returned to his home city to haunt Sheffield United in a 2-1 win for the Foxes.

Vardy, a Sheffield Wednesday fan, fired Leicester into a 38th-minute lead before Scot Oli McBurnie equalised with his first Premier League goal.

But Leicester secured their first win of the season when substitute Harvey Barnes smashed home a half-volley 20 minutes from time.

New boy Sebastien Haller scored twice as West Ham won 3-1 at Watford, who remain bottom of the table and without a point.

Southampton beat Brighton 2-0 in an eventful south coast affair at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton had striker Florin Andone sent off after 30 minutes for an X-rated tackle on Saints full-back Yan Valery.

Moussa Djenepo put Saints ahead after 55 minutes, just 78 seconds after coming on as a substitute, and Nathan Redmond settled matters in stoppage time.
