ALBION ROVERS 0 BRECHIN CITY 1

Brechin City picked up their first league win of the season and moved away from bottom spot in the League Two table after Saturday’s away victory at Albion Rovers.

The only goal of the match came nine minutes before half-time when Scott Reekie delivered a great cross into the Rovers box which found skipper Paul McManus who neatly side-stepped the keeper before slotting the ball into the net.

That proved to enough to clinch a morale-boosting win for the visitors.

Interim manager Stevie Campbell was absolutely delighted with the three points and praised the players for their efforts.

“It’s been a really difficult week for everyone connected with the club following Barry Smith’s departure,” he said.

“I had a long chat with the players at training during the week and since then we’ve been focusing all of our efforts on today’s match and thankfully we’ve managed to come away with all three points.”

“The players gave me absolutely everything after a very poor performance the previous week and I couldn’t have asked for any more.

“We had a game plan to hit Rovers on the counter-attack and it worked really well.

“The players’ work-rate and application levels were superb and I think that every single one of them deserves plaudits for the shift that they put in.

“What they have to do now is use this victory as a platform and begin to look upwards and if they can retain that sense of togetherness and team spirit that they showed today, then there’s absolutely no reason why that can’t happen.”

Campbell wouldn’t be drawn on whether or not he’s a candidate for the manager’s job at Glebe Park but confirmed that he will continue on an interim basis until an appointment is made.
