Foster set for Saints exit as interest in May rekindled

Richard Foster looks to have played his last game for St Johnstone, Courier Sport can reveal.

It is understood the experienced full-back verbally abused manager Tommy Wright on the training ground last week and has since been kept away from McDiarmid Park pending an internal investigation.

That was the reason the former Aberdeen and Rangers defender wasn’t in the Saints squad that secured an excellent comeback point at Easter Road on Saturday.

Foster has previously been suspended and fined by Saints after the 2017 fight with team-mate Danny Swanson during a game at Hamilton.

The club are not making any comment at the moment but it is extremely unlikely that Foster will play for Wright again.

With a week left of the transfer window, he is set to be moved on.

Foster, whose contract was due to last until the end of this season, arrived in 2016 and has made more than 100 appearances and been a first team regular in his three seasons with Saints. He began his career with Aberdeen before spells with Rangers, Bristol City and Ross County.

Meanwhile, Wright is still hoping to bring Stevie May back to Perth.

A three-year contract for the Aberdeen striker was almost sealed last month but collapsed at the 11th hour.

Saints went back in with a loan bid but that didn’t suit Pittodrie manager Derek McInnes.

And with time running out before the transfer window closes, Wright and chairman Steve Brown have rekindled interest in the 2014 Scottish Cup winner.
