Firms to learn of Chinese opportunities
An event in Dundee today will showcase business opportunities in China.
The one day programme includes workshops for food and beverage companies, tech and gaming companies, as well as a session on Chinese marketing and e-commerce.
Delegates will also have the chance for one-to-one meetings with the guest speakers.
Alison Henderson, chief executive of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce said: “This event is an indication of the strong partnership we have in the Tay Cities Area, which allows us to gather market experts to hold seminars such as this.
“There are a number of opportunities in the Chinese market and consumers and buyers are looking for strong Scottish products, often in the food and drink sector – they buy into the UK and Scottish brand.”
China market specialist for SDI, Huishan Chapman will provide a stepby-step guide for food and beverage firms wishing to expand into China, including labelling, packaging and cross-cultural communication.
Ms Henderson said: “We have a number of key specialists taking part who are in the market a lot and will give a clear sense of how to maximise the potential of what is a huge market.
“For example, Alibaba Cloud will be hosting a workshop where tech companies can hear about regulations and market entry strategies.
“Being one of the biggest players in the world, Alibaba Cloud provides a very comprehensive eco system for the tech sector.”
The Chinese economy has seen consistent growth, with a GDP increase of 6.6% in 2018.
The top five Scottish export sectors to China are education, life and chemical sciences, food and drink, engineering and advanced manufacturing and technology, digital and media.
China has been a key target for Scottish businesses since the country shifted from a closed to a more open economy in 1978 and Since then, the country has experienced rapid economic and social development, leading to China being the largest single contributor to world growth since 2008.
