Dons pose more questions than answers for McInnes

-

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has demanded more from his players as he seeks to get the club’s stuttering domestic campaign up and running.

The Dons dug deep to beat Hearts 3-2 on the opening day of the season but have failed to build on their win by taking one point from the last two league matches at St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

Saturday’s goalless draw at Rugby Park was another frustrating one for the Dons boss and he is not content to accept a point away from home.

He said: “There are more questions than answers for me at the moment and we need to be more equipped to win games like Saturday.

“We’ve got a lot of new players here and they need to grasp that sooner rather later.

“When you are searching for a bit of quality it wasn’t there for us. We set out to win every game and we have to make sure 0-0 isn’t an acceptable result.

“Our work was quite predictable and we were looking for individuals to produce something and it didn’t happen.

“We didn’t do enough, didn’t show enough of ourselves, and even when we made the changes it didn’t make any difference.

“Everywhere we go we try to win a game and at previous clubs maybe a draw away from home is not seen as a bad result but at this club we expect more.

“Had we asked more of Kilmarnock we could have taken three points instead of one.

“I’m frustrated we haven’t done more, shown more willing, conviction, penetration or forward passes to win the game. We have more to do if we want to go to places like Kilmarnock and win.”

In a further blow defender Scott McKenna was forced off before the half-hour mark with a hamstring strain at Rugby Park and McInnes is keeping his fingers crossed the defender’s absence is not a lengthy one.

He said: “Scott’s injury was a consequence of the pitch. He has overstretched his hamstring after losing his footing and he has a hamstring tear.

“It’s a real blow to lose someone of his influence but hopefully Scott recovers quickly.
