Foster likely to leave Saints after ‘incident’

-

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has confirmed that a training ground “incident” has led to defender Richard Foster being the subject of a club investigation, writes Eric Nicolson.

But the Perth boss won’t speak about the details of the matter until that process reaches its conclusion.

Foster was left out of the match day squad at Easter Road on Saturday and the likely outcome is his departure from McDiarmid Park at some point this week.

“There was an incident and the club have dealt with it,” said Wright. “There is part of that process still ongoing, so I can’t make any comment until it is totally and finally resolved.

“Obviously when there has been a problem you try to keep it in-house.”

Wright added: “But there is no denying that there was an incident which I had to report to the club to handle.

“Richard is in today but until it is resolved there will be no more comment.”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes believes a resolution can be found to the long-running saga over Stevie May’s potential return to Saints.

The Dons striker is understood to have his heart set on a move back to the Perth club.

A deal looked set to be concluded last month before collapsing at a late stage but the clubs have returned to the table and it looks possible May could seal his McDiarmid return before the transfer window closes next week.

McInnes said: “In all these things, there needs to be some middle ground.

“I’m sure if there is enough desire from all parties they can find a solution to get something done.”
