Man charged after woman found dead in Aberdeen suburb

Police describe the tragedy as a ‘contained incident’

A man has been charged in connection with the death of a woman in an Aberdeen suburb.

Officers were called to a semidetached house on the city’s Angusfield Avenue – close to its junction with King’s Gate – on Thursday after receiving reports of a death.

Police last night named the deceased as 56-year-old primary school assistant Alice Farquharson, pictured.

A 60-year-old man is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with the death.

In a statement, her family said: “We are completely devastated at the loss of our mum. She was kind and loving and always there for us, putting our needs above her own.

“She was a well-respected and much loved pupil support assistant at Hazlehead Primary School.

“She loved her job and all the children there and we hope they will always remember her for the caring woman she was.”

Yesterday, police officers and a forensics team could be seen going in and out of the property.

Additional officers stood guard in the driveway, preventing access to the rear of the home.

Residents living on the quiet suburban street were left stunned by the sudden appearance of the emergency services in their midst.

One neighbour said: “Alice was a really, really lovely lady who I had known for many, many years and she’s going to be missed terribly.”

“I’m shocked by what’s happened.” Officers are expected to be present in the area over the next few days while investigators try to piece together what happened.

Detective Gary Winter, of the major investigation team, said: “Inquiries are at a very early stage and will continue throughout the coming days.

“I would like to take this opportunity to stress that there is no threat to the wider community and it appears to have been a contained incident. I would thank local residents for their patience.”

“We are completely devastated at the loss of our mum. She was kind and loving and always there for us.” FAMILY STATEMENT
