Mohammed wants to leave Shire on a high

-

Umair Mohammed is determined to bid farewell to Forfarshire today with another trophy under his belt.

In the wake of steering the Broughty Ferry brigade to Eastern Premiership glory, he spearheads their quest to beat Uddingston at Titwood to secure the Cricket Scotland Grand Final trophy.

Mohammed has decided to move to an Edinburgh club next season to be closer to his home and work and spend more time with his wife and baby.

He said: “It’s been a memorable season for us but we’re not content simply with being the best team in the east – we want to be the best in the country.

“The only way for us to prove it is by beating Uddingston.”

Shire will be without Scotland all-rounder Michael Leask, who is attending a wedding, while bowler Christian Robertson has flown to Brisbane for the winter.

Glenn Carnegie and Graeme Garden are the men to come in for the Glasgow showdown.

Today’s encounter is the seventh playing of the Grand Final.

Uddingston are making their second appearance in the biggest match of the domestic season, having lost to Arbroath in 2013, while Shire take part in the showpiece event for the first time.

Uddy skipper Bryan Clarke said: “We have plenty players in our line-up who are capable of stepping up.”

In Niall Alexander, Abdul Sabri and Scotland star Gavin Main, Uddingston boast arguably one of the most potent pace attacks in the country, while spinner Amir Gul was the Western Premier’s second top wicket-taker with 31 victims.
