Perthshire breeders pay 10,000gn for Texel ram

Perthshire sheep breeders Iain and Patsy Hunter, of Darchirla, paid the day’s top price of 10,000gn for a shearling ram at the English National Texel sale at Worcester.

Canllefaes Bright Spark, a son of Talcoed You Know, is out of a dam by Young Venture Vantasic from WT Davies and Co from Ceredigion.

Next best at 7,000gn was Whitehart Big Style from Nicola and Jim Hartwright. He went to Shropshire, for the Wilodge flock.

Over in the ram lamb ring, prices topped at 15,000gn for Willy Davis’s Usk Vale Champagne Charlie, a son of Hexel Born To Be Wild and out of a Glenside-bred dam by the 82,000gn Cornmore Velvet Jacket.

He was bought by Nick Legge and family for the Thornbury flock.

At 5,500gn, Welsh breeder Myfyr Evans’s Rhaeadr flock sold a son of Garngour Alabama and out of a dam by Clinterty Yuga Khan.

Buying this one was Stephen Cobbald, Suffolk.

At 5,000gn was Cambwell Chieftan from Robert Laird. Sired by Langford Adder Again, this one was out of a dam by the home-bred Cambwell Trademar.

He sold to Andrew Reed and family for the Scolton flock, South Wales.

Following that came a 4,500gn bid for another from the Usk Vale consignmen­t, Usk Vale Cloud 9 from Willy Davis.

He too was sired by Hexel Born To Be Wild, this one is a full brother to the 15,000gn sale topper and was knocked down to James Theyer for the Clanfield flock, Oxfordshir­e.

In total, 52 shearling rams averaged £1,298.77 and 153 ram lambs averaged £1,088.26.
