Man, 24, dies in car and lorry accident on A90
Appeal for dashcam footage as police investigate two-car crash
A 24-year-old man died in a horrific accident on the A90 in Angus yesterday.
The crash closed a lane of the northbound trunk road for most of the day following the two-vehicle collision between Forfar and Brechin shortly after 9am.
The victim was the driver of a red Volkswagen Golf which was involved in a collision with a lorry on the northbound carriageway near Balnabreich.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent appliances from Brechin and Montrose to assist at the scene.
Police initially reported the incident as a serious single-vehicle accident, before making the tragic confirmation that the crash had claimed a victim.
The nearside lane of the northbound carriageway remained cordoned off and drivers were warned to expect delays.
A spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 24-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road, about 500 metres north of the junction with the road leading to Careston.
“His next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this sad time. The driver of the lorry was uninjured, and no other persons were involved.”
Drivers on the busy commuter route have been asked to provide any information which may assist the accident investigation, which could include dashcam footage.
The spokesman added: “Inquiries are continuing into the full circumstances, and we would like to ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any other relevant information to please call 101, or speak to any police officer.”
In a separate incident in Montrose, the occupants of a car and a motorhome were understood to have escaped serious injury after a collision at Rossie Island.
Also in Montrose, Police Scotland confirmed one of its officers died while on duty in the town yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Andrew Todd, Tayside Divisional Commander, said: “I can confirm a Police Scotland officer has this afternoon died while on duty in the Montrose area. The sympathies of everyone at Police Scotland are with the officer’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
