Korean city car given stylish makeover.

Hyundai has revealed the all-new i10 city car, which the firm says will be the most technologically advanced model in its class.

The outgoing i10 won the Scottish Car of the Year title in 2014 and remains one of the best city cars.

The new model gets a smart, modern design as well as a comprehensive set of technology and safety upgrades.

The market for entry level runabouts has shrunk recently – rules surrounding emissions and safety cut into the tight profit margins in this sector – with the Ford Ka+, Suzuki Celerio and Renault Twingo all among models being dropped in the UK.

Hyundai looks set to fill the gap for city cars, however. The new i10 is more stylish and grown-up looking than its predecessor.

Completely new from roof to wheels, it sits 20mm lower and is 20mm wider than its predecessor, while elements like the cascading grille, complete with LED spotlights and slimmer headlights, give it a more upmarket look.

Although it’s only 5mm longer, the wheelbase has grown by 40mm, which means there’s more passenger space .

Three new colours and a contrasting roof in red or black allow owners greater freedom to customise their cars.

Inside, there’s an 8in touchscreen display that’s smartphone compatible.

A new dashboard design has slim air vents and a raised gear lever.

At 252 litres, boot space is unchanged but remains the best in its class.

Also best in class are the safety features, with the i10 being offered with forward collision warning, highbeam assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning and a speed limit alert.

The new i10 should go on sale early next year. Prices will be announced nearer the time.
