The family of a pedestrian who died when a car and lorry collided in Edinburgh has paid tribute to the “dearly loved” father.

Andrew Malcolm suffered fatal injuries when a Vauxhall Astra and HGV crashed outside the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre at the foot of Leith Walk.

Police and paramedics attended the aftermath of the collision but the 62-year old from Edinburgh died at the scene.

Mr Malcolm’s daughters, Becky and Stacey Malcolm, said in a statement: “Our dad was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all his family.

“We would like to thank all the emergency services for their assistance and now ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

The fatal collision happened at approximately 1.10pm on Tuesday, with the surrounding roads cordoned off for several hours for police investigations.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses or motorists who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

Inspector Roger Park from the road policing unit in Edinburgh said: “Our deepest condolences are with all of Andrew Malcolm’s family and we are continuing with our investigation into this very tragic incident.

“We’ve already spoken to several key witnesses, however, any other motorists or members of the public who were in the area and witnessed what happened are asked to come forward, if they have not already spoken with us.

“Similarly, if you believe you may have relevant dashcam footage of the collision, please also contact police immediately.”
