He is undoubtedly a member of a most dangerous gang of motor car thieves, and, according to his own statement, they go about armed. So said Detective-Sergeant King in London yesterday in regard to Thomas Granger engineer, who had pleaded guilty to having been concerned in stealing a motor car and a case of surgical instruments valued at £340, the property of Dr Evelyn Oram. Dr Oram left his car to attend to a patient and on his return it had disappeared. Granger said he had lost all his money at racing.

The East Fife regional road, the M92, which will run from the Forth Bridge approach to just north of Kirkcaldy, is included in the projects which have been approved by Scottish Secretary Mr William Ross in the list of major trunk road and motorway schemes which will cost up to £28 million. He has now authorised survey or detailed design on the projects which include the A9 at Dunblane and the M9 Falkirk bypass to Stirling. In addition to the road schemes a number of major bridges will be replaced or by-passed.

A very special bottle of whisky has been offered for sale by private offer. It commemorates Friar Jon Cor who ordered eight bolls of malt in 1494 to make whisky – the first record of whisky distilling in Scotland. To mark the anniversary, Cardhu distillery of Speyside has produced 1,494 bottles of the Friar Jon Cor Quincentenary. Bottles have been sent to many famous people including the Queen, the prime minister and other political world leaders. None will go on sale to the public but one special bottle will go to good causes.

A leading Perthshire doctor has warned more practices will go under in the years it will take to resolve GP shortages. Dr Andrew Buist said the crisis in general practice is “like a car crash in slow motion”, which governments have failed to stop since the year before the SNP took office. The senior partner at Ardblair Medical Practice in Blairgowrie expects more surgeries to give up their contracts in the coming months.
