Dufour excited by Stars’ flying start

-

Dundee Stars forward Kevin Dufour hit the ground running by netting six goals in his first four games and hopes he and his team-mates can continue their perfect start.

The Canadian winger scored twice at the weekend as Dundee demolished Glasgow Clan 6-3 and 7-2 in the doubleheader.

Dufour said: “It was a good performance by everybody and we got two huge wins.

“We have made a great start to the season and now we have to keep it going.”

The powerful and clinical Stars attack showed their capabilities at the weekend and Dufour added: “It is something we work on in practice every day and also Pacha said he wants to bring more offence this year but not just in the forwards but in the defence as well.

“You saw that happened a lot this weekend, the defencemen were arriving late on the plays and they scored a couple of goals from doing that, so it is part of our game plan.”

The 27-year-old, Quebec native has made an instant connection with his new linemates and the trio led the way at the weekend.

“We are playing really well and I am playing with two really good players. Both Anthony (Beauregard) and Elgin (Pearce) are unbelievable players,” said Kevin.

“I just have to give them the puck and they put it in the net – it seems to be easy for them.”

He also impressed Stars fans early in the season by bagging four goals in the pre-season weekend against Odense Bulldogs, including a hat-trick in the second game against the Danish side.

Dufour said of his first few weeks in the City of Discovery: “It has been really good, the city and its people have treated me very well.

“The fans are great. They made the trip to Glasgow, which was pretty awesome, and at home they were really loud as well so it was good to see that kind of support.”

Now Dufour and the Stars are making their final preparations for this weekend’s league game against Manchester Storm and their first Tayside derby, when the Fife Flyers visit on Sunday.

Looking ahead to the game against Fife, he added: “I have heard it is a big rivalry but I’m not sure what to expect.

“I am sure we will find out this weekend but we are all really excited to get out there.

“We have really good team chemistry already and the guys are really close to each other.

“We are working hard in practice and are all looking forward to the weekend where we hope to have even more success.”
