Reuters agency learns that, according to the latest British reports from Warsaw, the insurgents in Upper Silesia have blown up the railway bridge at Purnowice and have destroyed the telegraphic and telephonic communication in the district of the Tarnowska Government. There was some brisk fighting on the night of September 1 when the Grenzschkutz soldiers attacked the village of Piotruwice, supported by machine guns stationed on the hill.

The finest view in Dundee. That’s what is awaiting the tenants of the two 22-storey three apartment maisonette blocks at Derby Street when they are finished early next year. Yesterday Mr W.W. Hosie, the city’s housing convener “topped” out the first block. It was a perfect day to admire the view from the roof. And what a view! A panorama of Fife, as far as St Andrews, the Carse of Gowrie, the river and sea and the Sidlaws awaits the occupants of the topmost flats – only 50 feet below the summit of the Law.

Members of the Polish Ex-Combatants’ Association in Perth are hoping that 10 vandalised graves in the Polish War Cemetery there can be repaired before their annual remembrance service on November 7. The war cemetery at Wellshill in Perth is the only Polish war cemetery in Scotland and the service is attended by Polish veterans and their families from all over Scotland. A week ago one headstone was knocked over and broken and hardly had this been removed for repair when a further nine were damaged. Matters Local

Thieves who broke into a community football club building stole equipment destined for impoverished African school children. Carnoustie Panmure Youth Football Club’s changing facilities at Pitskelly Park were raided over the weekend. A large number of footballs, some of which were to be sent to children in Gambia, were stolen after youths smashed the facility’s window to gain access. Under-16s team coach Andy Millar discovered the theft.
