Loons looking to leapfrog Bairns

Marc McCallum believes Forfar can upset title favourites Falkirk today in what he calls the toughest division in Scotland.

The Bairns are tipped by most to become champions but the Loons can go above them with a win.

And Station Park keeper McCallum says they have the firepower to do it.

McCallum, who had three clean sheets in August to win the Ladbrokes League One player of the month award, said: “I think this is the toughest division in Scotland in terms of how closely matched all 10 teams are.

“It’s not like the Premiership where Rangers and Celtic are out in front and there’s a sort of mini-league at the bottom.

“There’s a gap in the Championship and also in League Two. So, if you can get a run going you can really charge up the table.

“We’ve got the players to make an impact this season – especially in forward areas with Ross Forbes, Jordan Kirkpatrick and Dale Hilson.

“So, if I can keep the ball out of our net then these guys can go on and win the game for us at Falkirk.”

The former Dundee United man added: “Not too many keepers win these awards, so I’m really pleased.

“I only conceded one goal in the month, so that’s great – but I also have to thank the boys in front of me.

“I’m working with the same back four as last season, so we have a good understanding and that makes things easier.”

Meanwhile, Jim Weir wants to see a big improvement in his team’s performance following last weekend’s defeat to East Fife. Their winless run stretches back to August 10.

The Forfar manager said: “The last few games haven’t been good enough. We’ve got to get back to being hard to beat and go from there.

“Hopefully we can get a good result at Falkirk and our confidence will grow going into two home games.”

Weir, who should have a full squad to choose from, hopes to make a loan signing next week.
