Flyers’ hot stopper ready to tackle on-fire Blaze

-

It could be a busy night for Flyers’ highlyrated hot-stop Adam Morrison as Coventry Blaze visit Kirkcaldy tonight.

The 28-year-old goes into the Elite League clash boosted by earning his first shut-out in British hockey, stopping 42 shots as Fife ground out a 2-0 win in the Challenge Cup at rivals Dundee Stars on Sunday.

Morrison said: “It’s comforting knowing that, being an import, I’m going to play.

“It means I can continue to develop my own craft and learn.”

Looking back on his debut in a 3-2 home Challenge Cup reverse to Glasgow Clan, the Edmonton-born goaltender admitted: “I didn’t have the strongest game and didn’t feel as comfortable in net as I would have liked.

“My job as a goaltender is to give the guys a chance to find their rhythm and get into a groove.

“The guys rallied around me (on Sunday) and found another gear to get the win.

“No one player is going to dictate the outcome of the game. You need the entire team to be pulling on the rope.”

Morrison moved from North America after six American Hockey League (AHL) call-ups in seven years produced only two appearances.

Last term he did not ice at Hershey Bears during an injury-ravaged season but featured in 12 matches for South Carolina Stingrays in the East Coast Hockey League.

He added: “I’ve never doubted that I’m not good enough to play at the highest level in North America, it’s just one of those things that injuries and timing never seemed to come together.”

Coventry include former Fife favourite Evan Bloodoff in their ranks while Flyers new boy Tim Crowder returns to the Skydome for the first time since moving north to join brother Paul in Kirkcaldy.
