Stags leave it late as thrilling win over Glens sends them top

-

With Dunfermline’s trip to face Alloa in Caledonia Division One postponed, Grangemouth Stags travelled to meet Glenrothes last Saturday with top spot in the table at stake.

The sides served up a thrilling encounter that ended with the Fifers posting a 33-30 win.

Tries came from Kyle McIntosh (2), Daryl Warrender and Michael Delorey while Shaun Gray added two conversions and a penalty.

The scores were tied at 30-30 when the referee mistakenly blew for full-time. The game restarted and Gray booted another penalty to snatch the win.

The two bonus points Stags took from the game leave them top of the table on points difference over Glenrothes.

There was another tight affair at JJ Coupar Park, where Blairgowrie edged out Hillfoots 16-12, with the bonus point leaving Hillfoots third.

Panmure occupy top spot in Division Two (Midlands) after taking all five points from a 46-26 win at home to Kirkcaldy seconds. It was the ideal outcome on Pannie’s family day. Skipper Dan Jones led the way with two of the six tries which secured a second successive bonus point win that leaves the Forthill men a point clear of Madras who squeezed past Dundee University Medics 22-19.

Falkirk seconds posted the day’s highest tally as they saw off Rosyth Sharks 92-5.

Meanwhile, Carnoustie had tries from Anthony Franco, Connor Blackmore, Jordan Donnachie, Kieran Murphy and Craig Henderson, plus three Mark McQueen conversions, as they eased to a 31-12 win at home to Kinross.

Dunfermline seconds and their Grangemouth Stags counterparts are locked in a tie for top spot in Division Three after both posted bonus point wins. The Fifers had a straightforward 80-15 success over Glenrothes Development XV, while Stags were 46-17 winners at home to Perthshire seconds.

Bannockburn eased to a 38-0 victory over Strathmore seconds at Bluebellwood Park, while Crieff & Strathearn suffered a 48-45 defeat at home to Waid Academy FP. Dundee Morgan ran in eight tries in a 46-33 win over Montrose and District.

Howe Crusaders had to work hard for a 17-0 win at home to Hillfoots seconds, Aberfeldy bounced back with a 48-19 success over Bo’ness, while Arbroath and Stobswell shared the spoils in a 22-22 draw.
