A major route through Fife was closed for more than 12 hours after flooding affected roads across the region.

The Standing Stane Road from Kirkcaldy to Leven was closed overnight following a collision involving two cars during Friday’s adverse weather.

Police Scotland said the occupants of both vehicles involved in the incident on Friday night escaped serious injury.

Emergency services were called to the A915 Kirkcaldy and Leven road at around 8.20pm.

At the time, there was water on the carriageway following torrential rain.

Police Scotland Control Rooms said in a tweet on Friday night that the road would be closed until around 9am on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman later said the extensive road closure was due to surface water on the carriageway.

There were a number of accidents on roads across Fife over the weekend.

A man was taken to hospital after the Porsche he was driving hit a crash barrier on the A92.

He was treated at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for what were understood to be serious but not life threatening injures after the incident near Lochgelly.

The accident happened on the northbound carriageway at around 10.20am on Saturday.

Crews from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist because the casualty was trapped in the vehicle.

The man was cut free from the car and taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Operations control mobilised three appliances to the incident and firefighters removed one male casualty who was trapped in the vehicle.

“He was stabilised and taken by ambulance to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.”

The carriageway was reopened shortly before 1pm.

Meanwhile, a woman and a child were taken to Victoria Hospital after an accident on a back road between Markinch and Milton of Balgonie at around 10am yesterday.

It is understood they escaped injury and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

And at 11.20am yesterday, two vehicles were involved in a collision in Alexander Street in East Wemyss.

It is understood a man sustained a leg injury in the crash.

“Operations control mobilised three appliances to the incident and firefighters removed one male casualty who was trapped in the vehicle.
