Relegation battlers find correct attitude in Ainslie Park stalemate

-

Brechin City and Edinburgh City shared the spoils after a goal-less draw at Ainslie Park.

Neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled over the course of the match with the very windy conditions making if difficult for both sides to keep the ball on the ground and a point apiece at the end of the 90 minutes was probably a fair result.

The result leaves Brechin still eight points behind nearest rivals Albion Rovers but a draw away from home, against a side bidding for the title, is a good result by any standards.

City boss Mark Wilson certainly thought his side deserved to leave Ainslie Park with a point.

“I thought that we were good for a point today,” he said.

“I was very pleased with the way the boys reacted after going down to a heavy 4-1 defeat from Albion Rovers in our last match.

“It was an experienced side we put out and Alex Petrov, who we signed on loan from Hearts just this week, looked a composed figure and added presence to our defence.

“We had experience also in midfield with Rhys McCabe and the two experienced lads up front carried out their jobs to a tee.

“I was very pleased with the way the whole team performed because Edinburgh City are a very good side and Ainslie Park is always a very tough venue to come to, and especially so with the run we’ve been on and how many goals we’ve been shipping in recent matches.

“We always looked comfortable and although Edinburgh did have the majority of the ball I thought our guys did their jobs perfectly and we restricted them chance wise.

“At the other end I thought that we were always just that final pass away.

“We were never under any real pressure but on the other hand I don’t think that we forced Edinburgh’s keeper into any saves of note.

“The boys’ heads were down after the Albion Rovers result and after that we said that we weren’t going to give up and we weren’t going to make it easy for teams.

“We did that today and that’s the way we’ve got to continue in the matches ahead.”
