Key man Considine aims for more Dons cup glory

-

Andy Considine has done more than most for the Aberdeen cause in cup competitions.

His career is littered with key goals in the latter stages of tournaments.

It was Considine’s goal for the 10 men of Aberdeen that helped them to a 2-0 quarter-final win in the League Cup-winning season of 2014.

This season he has scored an injurytime equaliser in a League Cup win at Dundee and as recently as a week ago he scored another equaliser with two minutes remaining as the Dons overcame Kilmarnock to reach the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

As the Dons prepare for their Scottish Cup quarter-final date with St Mirren in Paisley on Saturday, Considine is daring to dream.

He said: “If we were to get to a final this year, and if we were potentially to lift a cup, then that would be fantastic.

“It’s a dream as a player to lift a cup, that’s what you want, that is why you play football. Fingers crossed that this can be our year.

“The Kilmarnock game was a huge result for us. It felt like a season-definer for us and it took until the second half for us to show that but when we did we had a never-say-die attitude.

“We have done it the hard way in reaching the last eight but hopefully we can put a big a smile back on the fans’ faces. A lot of them turned out at Rugby Park and it didn’t go unnoticed.

“We have got a fantastic squad. We just needed to get back on the rails and I feel we have managed that.

“We have made it hard for ourselves over the last couple of months. I feel we are in the driving seat at the minute. If we can continue this form, with confidence in front of goal we can finish where we want to in the league and have a good cup run as well.”

If ratings were handed out for drive and determination then Considine, the quiet man of Pittodrie, would be a 10 out of 10 every week.

Now in the veteran stages of his career, the 32-year-old (he will be 33 on April 1) knows the importance of savouring each campaign.
