Fresh appeal over A92 police crash
A police officer who had to be airlifted to hospital after an accident by the side of the A92 is expected to make a full recovery, say colleagues
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident which took place at around 1.40pm on Thursday afternoon.
A police vehicle responding to a breakdown between Cowdenbeath and Crossgates was struck by a HGV car transporter lorry that had been travelling westbound.
Two male officers in a BMW X5 had
“Thankfully there were no life threatening injuries
stopped to help three women whose white Vauxhall Corsa had broken down in lane one.
The officers parked their vehicle behind the Corsa and one officer began directing traffic while the women were helped to the nearside verge.
However, a second officer in his 40s was in the police vehicle when the car transporter collided with it, causing the vehicle to leave the road and come to rest on the grass embankment.
He was airlifted to Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital by Scotland’s charity air ambulance. One of the women sustained minor injuries. The road was closed for around eight-and-a-half hours afterwards.
Inspector Andy Mather, of Fife’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Thankfully, neither the officer nor anyone else involved sustained life-threatening injuries. However, he remains in hospital for observations.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the public, and colleagues, for their supportive messages and would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this, or was travelling on the A92 at this time and has dashcam footage, to get in touch.”
