Wilson hopes keeper will not need to score the goals

-

Brechin City manager Mark Wilson does not want to have to rely on goalkeeper Lewis McMinn to come up with a goal against visitors Stirling Albion for a second time this season as he wants his strikers to be firing on all cylinders.

McMinn netted when Brechin defeated the Forthbank side 4-2 back in December with Wilson saying: “That was a bit of a freak goal as it was a punt from inside his own area.

“It was great at the time and helped us win the game but it is not something I expect to see repeated, especially against the same opposition.”

The bottom-of-the-table Glebe Park men have played out goalless draws in their last two outings with promotion seeking Edinburgh City and Queen’s Park and while Wilson is glad of the improvement, he knows that his side have to start scoring goals to get the wins desperately needed to avoid finishing bottom.

Wilson said: “We appear to have half of the jigsaw puzzle in place but we now need to work on completing the second half.

“We have players that can score goals however we have sacrificed some of our potency for solidity.

“We have changed shape as we needed to stop losing goals and games, and it appears to be working.

“However, we now want to move on to the next part of the plan which is to be strong defensively but scoring at the other end.

“Stirling had a disappointing start to the season – however they have turned things around. They are in the hunt for a play-off place at the top of the table, however we are at home and will go out looking to win.

“They will test our defence as they have good strikers in Darryl Duffy and Dylan Bikey with Dylan Mackin also available after injury.

“We have a growing confidence that we have a solid foundation to build on and this will be a test of that.”

Ross Brown continues to be missing due to an ankle injury.
