Another resounding success for pupils at Big Book Brain Quiz

-

Take more than 360 competitive schoolchildren, add six rounds of questions and an internationally-renowned children’s author as quizmaster and what do you get?

The correct answer is the roof-raising 2020 final of ONFife Libraries’ annual Big Book Brain Quiz.

Teams of P6 students from 121 schools across Fife gathered in Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, to test their knowledge of all things bookish. Rounds spanned everything from Page to Popcorn – covering books made into films – to the World of Walliams, on the works of David Walliams.

It was an excitement-filled day, but winning through to take the top spot was the team of Kit Holme, Jamie McDonald and Euan Fleming, from Lawhead Primary School in St Andrews.

There was a close battle for second and third places, with Burntisland Primary just pipping Kinghorn Primary at the post.

It was the 13th year of the popular quiz, with the final the culmination of months of work between ONFife Libraries’ Young People Services team and the schools. The finalists were flying the flag for more than 3,500 children across Fife who read their way through more than 19,000 books.

Maggie Gray, Young People Service Development team leader, said: “It’s always a tremendous occasion and this year was no different.”

The quiz was compered by children’s author Jonathan Meres, who said he was delighted to take on the annual role just a day before flying to Nigeria for a World Book Day tour.
