Home win for Dens star... or will neighbour stymie luxury build?

-

Dundee star Graham Dorrans is facing a battle over plans to build a new luxury mansion.

The midfielder wants to erect a large, five-bedroom property in the affluent village of Bothwell, Lanarkshire.

The former Scotland cap has lodged plans for the home which include a gym, a bar, a cinema room and a toy room.

The 32-year-old, who lives in nearby Thorntonhall, also wants a grand staircase, office space and a three-car garage at the 7,000sq/ft property.

He is also proposing a balcony overlooking the Clyde.

However, a neighbour has objected to South Lanarkshire Council about his plans claiming the proposed house would spoil their privacy.

Marco Clemente wrote: “The development is on higher ground and given its proposed size and location, we will suffer a loss of privacy in our home and garden.

“It will result in a loss of natural light for much of the day as it will directly block sunlight reaching my property. The proposed development is maximising use of available land in the proposed site and as a consequence is overbearing and out of keeping with the wider developments in the area.”

South Lanarkshire Council is due to make a decision on the application by April.

Dorrans started his youth career at Rangers before making his professional debut at Livingston in 2005.

He then had spells in England with West Bromwich Albion and Norwich before signing for Rangers in 2017.

After an injury hampered spell at Ibrox, he signed with Dundee last year and penned a new 18-month deal at Dens Park in January amid transfer speculation linking him with a move to MK Dons.
