Maybe time to tinker says steady Campbell

-

Dick Campbell has stuck instead of twisted when it comes to his recent team selections.

But the Red Lichties boss reckons it might finally be time to shuffle his pack.

Arbroath travel to Morton today off the back of a stuffy midweek draw with Dunfermline at Gayfield.

Given their stated aim of finishing eighth, taking a point from the Pars was no disaster. But their manager revealed a few players’ performances gave him food for thought.

“We’ll be more or less along the same lines at Greenock,” said Campbell. “But I might have a look at one or two changes. I haven’t quite decided yet.

“I’ve kept the same team for a few weeks now but I thought against Dunfermline we maybe just looked a wee bit stale, a wee bit tired.

“We’ve played in midweek there and it’s another game today, which is tight schedule-wise.

“We’ve got part-time players playing against full-time opposition, so maybe it’s time for a wee change.

“I’ve kept the same starting team for a while, but when I talk about my team, I’m talking about 18 players, not just the 11 who have been starting.

“It might be time to give one or two a chance.”

Campbell effectively has a full squad to pick from, with the exception of Michael McKenna, who is approaching fitness once again but is a couple of weeks away from action.

That’s a bonus as far as the Red Lichties gaffer is concerned – because he expects a tough test.

“Everyone is more or less fine,” he said.

“Looking at Greenock Morton, that’s a tricky away trip. They’ve just lost their first game in eight, so they’ll be looking to bounce back.

“But it’s like any other game in this league – there are no easy ones. We’ll just concentrate on what we can do.”
