Petrie cautious ahead of Stranraer double-header

-

Montrose face bottom-placed side Stranraer at Links Park today and again at Stair Park on Tuesday.

Gable Endies boss Stewart Petrie is focusing only on beating the Blues once before even thinking about beating them twice.

Petrie explained: “This is the only game I am thinking about.

“There are only 10 games left in the season and every one will be massive and have something at stake.

“We cannot get too far ahead of ourselves and start complicating our thinking.

“I have stuck to the one-game-at-atime approach that has served us well over the past few years and will start thinking about Tuesday’s game once this one is out of the way.

“I will pick a team for Saturday’s game that I think will get us a positive result.”

Despite Montrose looking to be involved in a push for promotion and Stranraer fighting to avoid relegation Petrie is taking nothing for granted.

He added: “Stranraer are not out of things at the bottom of the table.

“They recently took points from the top three teams in this league and that tells you all you need to know about what they can do.”

The game also gives Montrose the opportunity to bounce back after losing at Clyde in midweek with Petrie saying: “We were a bit unfortunate at Clyde as we dominated towards the end of the game.

“I have to admit that Clyde were the better team especially in the first half when their movement was terrific.”

“The second half was a lot better and we were on top for long spells but we never got an equaliser.

“We have the chance to move on quickly.”
