A 32-year-old man who tragically died in a crash on the A90 in Angus has been named.

Darren Mills, who lived in Dundee, died after the van he was driving collided with a Stagecoach bus shortly after 8am on Thursday.

The accident, which happened near Tealing at the Petterden junction, also resulted in eight passengers being rushed to Ninewells Hospital.

Some procedures at the hospital were postponed to accommodate casualties.

Inspector Greg Burns from the Dundee Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Mills’ family at this sad time.

“His family have described him as a much loved son, brother and uncle who will be sadly missed.

“They have asked that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

“Our investigations continue, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage, of the incident who has not yet spoken to the police to do so on 101, quoting reference number 0550 of March 12.”

The Courier told yesterday how 23-year-old Danielle Ashley, who was on the bus, was among those who rushed to administer first aid to those injured.

She described the crash as “absolutely terrifying” and said it’s “devastating” to know a man has died.

Avril Young, 50, from Glenogilvy, was also on the bus and said she was “looking right at the van” in the moments before the vehicles collided.

She said: “I don’t think reality has really set in – that vision of knowing what was going to happen, moments before it did.

“There’s no other place it could have gone, except into the side of the bus.

“Me and a few of the passengers were all thrown to the opposite side. It looked as if the bus was going to topple over and I think the kerb actually stopped it from falling over.

“The first thing I did was go to an older lady lying on the floor in front of me.

“She was struggling to breathe and complaining of a pain down her lefthand side.

“The door of the bus was jammed and we couldn’t get out, but we managed to get to the back of the bus and open the emergency exit, helping those that could move to get out. “Everybody was cold and shaking. “My left knee is swollen and painful but it was checked over by paramedics before my husband came to collect me at the end of the road.”
