McGlynn in the dark over when next game could be

-

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn has urged the football authorities to provide clarity on the way forward as soon as possible.

With the Scottish FA and SPFL suspending the Scottish season indefinitely, but at least for this weekend and next midweek, McGlynn revealed he has been left unsure whether he should be preparing his squad for next weekend’s encounter with East Fife.

The Premier League and EFL have initially given clubs south of the border a possible return date of April 3.

While McGlynn is fully aware the fluid response to the coronavirus pandemic could mean that proves overly optimistic and has to be pushed back, he insists it is vital that clubs get clearer guidance.

He said: “It’s an unprecedented situation we find ourselves in and public health is the main priority here, and that means everyone – players, fans, staff, workers, everyone who attends a football match, to stewards and police.

“We’re guided by the authorities and at least Scotland has followed England in postponing fixtures.

“Rightly or wrongly, we’re expecting some more guidance from the SPFL and the SFA.

“They’ve obviously put out this statement but we’re kind of looking for a bit more guidance. The games this weekend and the games in midweek are off but does that mean we’re playing next Saturday?

“Someone needs to tell us because if so we would then need to start preparing.

“Everyone understands that date (in England) may be extended because no one actually knows what’s going to happen.

“I understand it’s difficult but if England can do it then I’m not sure why we haven’t done the same.”
