‘Closed until further notice’: Courier Country signs go up

Events across Fife and Tayside have been scrapped

Venues across Tayside and Fife have been posting “closed until further notice” signs and event organisers have been cancelling plans as the coronavirus outbreak continues to wreak havoc.

The V&A Dundee shut its doors at 5pm last night, following the Dundee Rep Theatre and Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA), which had already announced they were closing.

Perth’s theatre and concert hall have closed down with immediate effect, and bosses at Perth Racecourse have confirmed this year’s Perth Festival has been cancelled.

Fife casualties include the Links Market and Fife Show, while the annual Bonfest celebration in Kirriemuir is off.

The three-day Perth Festival planned for April was planned to kickstart the 2020 season at the Scone race course.

Kirkcaldy’s famous Links Market, which is due to take place next month, has been officially postponed amid fears over the coronavirus outbreak.

This year’s six-day fair was due to be held from April 15 to 20.

The Links Market was first held by Royal Charter in 1304.

The annual Fife Show, one of the most popular one day agricultural shows in the country, has been cancelled in light of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The show has been held in Fife to showcase the breeding of livestock since 1821, and it was due to be held on the second last Saturday in May just outside Cupar.

Meanwhile, the famous Fife Point-toPoint race meeting at Balcormo Races, scheduled for April 25, has also been postponed.

The Cateran Yomp, an epic charity trek across rural Angus and Perthshire, has been cancelled.

Organisers of the annual event, which was due to mark its 10th anniversary in June, have pledged to postpone until 2021.

The plug has been pulled on Kirriemuir Bonfest which draws thousands of AC/DC fans to the Angus town in one of the area’s biggest annual summer events.

Organisers DD8 Music have urged fans of the band not to travel to Kirrie on the first weekend in May for a celebration which has been running for 15 years.

Plans are still being laid for one of the UK’s biggest vintage vehicle gatherings, but organisers of the Glamis Castle event admit there is a “considerable degree of uncertainty” over the July date.

A number of key sporting events planned for Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife throughout April and May have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) has also called off its Dundee show tomorrow at the Caird Hall.
