Self-isolation support in Dundee

-

Members of the community are banding together to help those self-isolating.

Julian Thomson, along with a group of other volunteers, has setup Covid19 Support Dundee, which will deliver food packs and items to those in isolation.

The group has been going for only a few days but has already received more than £500 in donations to purchase items such as toiletries and food.

Julian said: “I realised there was going to have to be a lot of support from local businesses and that everybody was going to have to band together.

“The government is going to be quite tied up in planning. I was thinking of what can we do now to respond to this.

“We have raised almost £600. If people are self-isolated they can’t leave their houses.”

Julian is also urging those who have stockpiled items such as hand sanitiser and toilet roll to think about donating them.

Douglas and Mid Craigie Church is being used as a donation point and anyone wanting to get in touch about donating can contact the group by emailing covid19dundee@ yahoo.com

Anyone who is feeling lonely while isolating can also get in touch with the group on 01382 413 076.

The group has 16 volunteers who are on hand to deliver food parcels through no-contact drop-offs.

Meanwhile, a mental health charity in Dundee is delivering food and care packages to those who are self-isolating.

Feeling Strong, which offers wellbeing support to young people, is “radically pivoting” its work to provide vital products to those in need.

The charity has said that the allocation of packages will be conducted on a needs-assessed basis and will be open to people of all ages.

The service will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3-6pm.
