Dark Blues training in isolation

-

Josh Meekings has revealed Dundee players have been training at home since the coronavirus outbreak curtailed the season, writes Sean Hamilton.

The Dark Blues, like other Scottish clubs, have scrapped training sessions in line with government advice on social distancing.

The result, says their skipper, has been frustrating – but he insists the Dee are listening to all advice in an effort to stay healthy.

“We’re being told what to do and are taking it day by day, just in the house,” he said.

“You try and do a little bit yourself to keep yourself ticking over.”

“We have to be careful with that as well – so we do it by ourselves,” added Meekings.

“It’s a difficult period for everybody. We understand it’s frustrating.

“We’re in the same boat and the manager and the staff are in the same boat.

“It’s just one of those things – we have to listen to the people that know best and do what’s right.

“We’ve had a set programme sent out to the boys.

“You just follow that, follow the guidelines, and try to do it as best you can.

“It’s difficult because you don’t want to be going out with groups of people, and it’s hard to do it on your own sometimes, but it’s just one of those things.

“We just have to deal with the situation we’re in and make the most of it.”

Meekings also offered a message from the Dark Blues squad to the club’s supporters, whose lives have also been thrown into chaos by the ongoing changes.

“The message is for everybody to stay safe and listen to what we’re being told,” said the Dee captain.

“I’m guessing a lot of people will be off work, as well as us.

“It’s a very difficult stage (of the season) for us at the moment, but just stay safe and we’ll be back soon hopefully and ready to go.”
