‘Dream come true’ as Fife chef to appear on Great British Menu

- CRAIG SMITH

A Fife chef is set to show off her culinary exploits on national TV as part of this year’s Great British Menu line-up.

Amy Elles, who runs the Harbour Café in Elie, will feature as part of the Scottish heats, which will be broadcast on the BBC in the week beginning March 30.

Although born in London, in 2006 Amy moved up to Scotland and, together with her husband Jack, set up the Laughing Stock Food in Kinross, a catering business specialising in street food, and then, in 2014, Stocks Events, specialising in weddings and private catering.

Amy first discovered her love of food from her mother and, while working at Harrods, she spent her lunch hours and free time in the kitchens learning all about food preparation.

Her passion was whetted, and she moved on to gain valuable experience in some of the most prestigious restaurants in London and the surrounding area including the Fat Duck and Moro, as well as extensive working abroad.

The programme will see Amy create dishes with the theme of children’s literature and viewers can follow her progress on the show when it airs.

“Actually, being on The Great British Menu and representing Scotland is a dream come true,” she said.

“It has been challenging to create four courses that not only tell the story, look good and most importantly taste delicious whilst showing respect and honouring the authors who have been the inspiration.

“This together with the new introduction of the amuse-bouche and palate cleanser… but I’ve loved it.

“I love living in the East Neuk of Fife and I’ve found it is the ideal place to source so many wonderful products.

“My cooking philosophy is simple, to use all the wonderful local ingredients that Scotland has to offer.”
