Sporle’s agony at being denied trip back home

UNITED: Defender misses return to ‘beloved Centenario’

Dundee United defender Adrian Sporle has told of his agony at being unable to return to his native Argentina during the coronavirus crisis.

The 24-year-old’s homeland has banned all foreign flights from countries affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Sporle, from the village of Centenario, opened his heart on the situation to a local media outlet.

He said: “In Scotland, we are now yet in mandatory quarantine and we have the option to leave if we want. But they have closed all the places where people meet.

“Football is stopped and we are on holiday until April 13 but I can’ t go home to my beloved Centenario either. The only time I go out now is to do the shopping to get necessities and I try to keep everything clean using gel.”

COVID-19: Continued from page 48 Sporle added: “But the other day I went to the supermarket and I couldn’t even get anything there. Everything was out of stock. There are so many products here that are not available. “And to top it all, at the end of February my girlfriend left too.” The former Atletico Banfield left-back arrived at United in the summer and initially struggled with the language and change of environment in Scotland. Manager Robbie Neilson admitted in November: “He is still learning English and getting acclimatised to Scotland, the country and the climate. It is just going to take time. “We have to understand that Adrian has travelled halfway around the world to a totally different culture and language.”
