One of Tayside’s biggest cycling events has been formally postponed until next summer.

Organisers confirmed yesterday that the Etape Caledonia will go head on May 16 2021.

Cupar Golf Club has urged the public to stay away after several sightings were made of players using the greens on Tuesday.

The club had granted access to the nine-hole course, said to be the oldest in the world, for public exercise but has since closed it completely.

Club captain Keith Ripley said: “Our greenkeepe­r is permitted to continue working on the essential upkeep and we have asked him to remain vigilant and report anyone stupid enough to want to play on in the current crisis.”

Scottish Golf said golfers everywhere should play their part and stay at home.

A Dundee chef has launched a no-contact delivery service to bring a slice of the restaurant’s cuisine to people in isolation.

Adam Newth, owner of the Tayberry Restaurant in Broughty Ferry, hopes to preserve the business while ensuring the safety of staff and customers.

People living within five miles can order hot meals to their doorstep. Cold food packages can also be ordered.

Orders can be placed through the UK Takeaways app and NHS staff and emergency services workers will receive 20% off.

Staff at the Balhousie Willowbank care home in Carnoustie are taking up an offer from Links Cabs, which has offered free rides to hard-pressed local staff.

Links Cabs, which operates six vehicles in the town, has already offered to pick up shopping and medicines for elderly customers without charge.

Organisers of the Great Angus Beach Clean have urged people to do their bit for the local environmen­t after the April event had to be postponed until September.

Dundee constructi­on firm Gowrie Contracts has donated protective equipment to NHS staff after shutting down on Tuesday. It has now passed on 100 face masks and 100 protective boiler suits to those on the frontline.

St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth has closed with the exception of essential stores and banks.

Poundland, Clydesdale Bank and TSB will remain open for now.

Poundland will continue to operate the normal centre opening hours but can only be accessed via the King Edward Street entrance.

Clydesdale Bank will be open from 10am-2pm Monday to Friday via the door on the High Street, while the TSB will be open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday via King Edward Street.
