September’s Dundee Flower and Food Festival has been cancelled.
Dundee City Council announced the September 4-6 event had been axed after “careful consideration” around the timing and safety of one of the biggest events on the city calendar.
It said council staff who would normally be involved in planning for the festival at this time of year are currently supporting the delivery of essential services to the community.
Neighbourhood services convener Anne Rendall said: “I am a huge fan of the event and I know it is a firm date in the diary for many local people, horticultural societies and traders.
“But it is very important we follow the current guidelines for handling the coronavirus situation, and we want to give those involved the maximum notice so that losses and disappointment can be minimised.

Festival every year but the decision has been taken in the best interests of everyone involved.”
Meanwhile, Perth Salute and the International Youth Band Festival will no longer go ahead following a decision by Perth and Kinross Council.
This comes after the cancellation of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Tattoo.
The council appreciates this is “disappointing” for those who have worked hard to organise the events but maintains it is the “right thing to do”.
Chief executive Karen Reid said: “Over the past several years Perth has made a name for itself as a city for friendly, family events, so it is with regret that we have to announce these cancellations.
“However, people’s safety must come first, and I know that both participants and audiences will understand the circumstances.
“For now, we must concentrate on working together to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.”
