A Dundee man who told of his dog being run over by a car after he collapsed in the street while walking it has appealed for witnesses to find the driver, who “just drove away”.

Raymond Simpson, 29, suffers from mobility problems and fell on Balunie Drive on Thursday.

He said his nine-month-old border collie Molly broke free from her harness and was hit by a car, injuring her paw.

Mr Simpson said the driver did not stop, and he wants anyone who saw the incident to contact the Missing Pets Dundee and Angus Facebook page.

He has also contacted the police, with hopes that CCTV will identify the car.

Raymond said: “Because of my health I can be unstable on my feet and

I collapsed while out for a walk. Molly was on a lead but she got loose from her harness and ran off.”

He said his partner tried to catch her but then a car came and Molly was hit.

“Luckily it wasn’t too serious, only her paw was injured. We took her to the vet and we gave her medicine.”

Mr Simpson said it happened so fast that he did not manage to get a good look at the car or the driver.

The incident happened at around 3pm and there was a van behind the car, and Mr Simpson hopes the van driver will come forward to help.

He added: “I don’t even remember the colour or make of the car or what the driver looked like, just that it was a man.

“The driver definitely did see that he’d hit the dog. He looked at her through his window but then just drove away.”

He added: “I’m hoping some of the other drivers can come forward.”

Molly is recovering at home and is expected to be back to full health soon.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that the incident was reported to them at 4.30pm on Thursday.
