Petrie hails ‘unbelievable’ Gable Endies supporters
Montrose manager Stewart Petrie has thanked those who have been fundraising and vowed that the Gable Endies will be going strong when football resumes.
The club’s Whatever It Takes crowdfunder has passed the £6,000 mark and is rapidly approaching its £7,500 target.
Petrie expressed his gratitude and took it as a sign that the Angus side will come through the coronavirus crisis fit and ready to go again.
He said: “I can’t thank them enough. They have been unbelievable.
“That just tells you where we are as a club – a family, I guess, from the directors through to the supporters.
“Hopefully, we all come out of this unscathed and the club will be here when it starts up again.
“There is no question of that when you look at the fanbase we have and what they are prepared to do to make sure the club survives. It’s outstanding.”
Petrie has been keeping in contact with his stayat-home squad, saying: “I have managed to catch up with them all, basically over the last few days, touching base to make sure they are all healthy and that their families are fine.
“We also updated them and I speak to John (Crawford, the chairman) very regularly about what is happening at the club.
“They all have their individual training programmes and the guys will be keeping themselves ticking over at home.
“It is a massive miss for everybody connected with football – manager, players, supporters and directors.
“But there are bigger things to worry about just now, that’s for sure.”
