Nelms and Keyes deserve pat on back for season ticket refund offer

- IAN ROACHE COMMENT

In these troubled times, people are looking for comfort where they can find it and Dundee certainly delivered some to their fans.

Tucked away in his statement confirming players and staff would be going on the government’s furlough scheme, Dens managing director John Nelms made a gesture.

It is one that has gone down wonderfully well with Dark Blues supporters.

In a nutshell, if the 2019-20 season is called to a halt and there are no further matches played at home then season ticket holders will get a refund.

The hope is that the club’s Business Interruption Insurance policy with a specific addition of notifiable diseases cover, taken out before the crisis, will give Dundee the option of reimbursement of losses incurred due to Covid-19.

Nelms stated: “It would be our intention, if the season is brought to an early conclusion, where practical, to reimburse those season ticket holders for the remainder of the season that was not played.

“This will be further assessed for timelines, etc, as we make our way through the claims process.”

Dundee supporters, perhaps more than most, have already shown they are prepared to go the extra mile to help save their beloved club.

The hunch is that, even if offered, there would be few fans who would take them up on this offer.

Indeed, if anything, cash will be flowing in the opposite direction.

However, in this case, it really is the thought that counts and Nelms and owner Tim Keyes deserve credit for making a pledge that will have lifted the spirits of their stuck-athome support.
