Almost 400 deaths due to Covid-19 across Tayside and Fife since outbreak began

Almost 400 people have died across Tayside and Fife after contractin­g coronaviru­s since the beginning of the outbreak.

New National Records of Scotland (NRS) data shows that as of May 10 there were a total of 3,213 deaths registered in Scotland due to Covid-19.

A regional breakdown shows that 232 coronaviru­s deaths since the start of the pandemic were in Tayside and 162 in Fife, taking the toll for Courier Country to 394 since the pandemic began.

Of the Tayside figure, 124 deaths were in Dundee, 54 were in Angus and 54 were in Perth and Kinross.

A total of 105 deaths in Tayside and 59 in the kingdom have been in care homes.

“Data shows that as of May 10 there were 3,213 deaths registered in Scotland due to Covid-19

across Tayside and Fife has increased by 52 in the seven-day reporting period up to May 10, up from 342 the previous week.

Of last week’s figures, 107 deaths were in Dundee, 49 were in Angus, 43 were in Perth and Kinross and 143 in Fife.

Across the whole of Scotland there were a total of 415 Covid-19 deaths registered between May 4 and May 10, a decrease of 110 on the week before. It is the second weekly reduction in the country’s death rate in a row.

A total of 238 coronaviru­s deaths in the country (57%) in the past week took place in care homes, a drop of 76 on the figure for the week before.

A total of 76% of all Scotland’s Covid-19 deaths to date were of people aged 75 or above.
