Firefighters in Montrose mounted a round-the-clock vigil yesterday as fire raged through a cargo boat berthed at the town’s harbour. They stood on the quayside and the decks of the Efdim Junior, armed with breathing gear and water hoses, amid fears of a flare-up in the burning wood pulp shipment. Dock workers and the ship’s crew worked into the night offloading much of the 280 tonnes of pulp in a bid to get to the seat of the fire. Scorched bales were hosed down by firefighters on the north quay as they were pulled out.
