Scholarships still available in crisis
Nuffield Farming Scholarships are going ahead this year despite the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nuffield Trust (NFST) says it will be awarding 2021 scholarships and it is still accepting online applications.
The trust awards grants to up to 20 individuals each year to fund travel to research topics of interest in either farming, food, horticulture or rural industries. It says it will support scholars as they meet the unique challenges posed by the Covid-19 crisis.
“This crisis will undoubtedly affect how our scholars study and travel for the next few years,” said trust director Mike Vacher.
“However, we will be flexible and ensure that every scholar receives the support and resources necessary to complete their studies.”
To be eligible for a scholarship applicants must be aged between 22 and 45.
Applicants must work within the farming, food, horticulture, rural and associated industries or are in a position to influence these industries. There is no requirement for academic qualifications, but applicants will already be well established in their career and demonstrate a passion for the industry they work in and be three years posttertiary education.
Candidates must be resident in the UK and hold a UK passport or be working directly for UK agriculture.
Mr Vacher added: “Our scholars are leaders with an ability to make things happen in different ways.”
