Tartan Tornado thrilled with return of fight routine

-

Josh Taylor admits he is about to step up his boxing training in the hope his next fight could be on the horizon.

The WBA and IBF super lightweight champion is set to jet out to Spain for a camp alongside trainer Ben Davison and stablemate Billy Joe Saunders.

Taylor’s mandatory bout against Apinun Khongsong was postponed on May 2 and the 29-year-old has not fought since unifying the 140lbs division last October when he beat Regis Prograis in London.

And the Tartan Tornado is thrilled his boxing routine is slowly getting back to normal following the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

Taylor said: “We’re going out to Spain this weekend for a couple of weeks and to do a bit of training, get back to knowing each other on the pads, get back familiar with each other again and get better, get fitter and get stronger.

“It will be good to use this time to get familiar with Ben and get the ball rolling, start making plans.

“Just to get fit and get in shape again. Hopefully when we get back it’s opened up a bit more and we can get back to the gym and have more normality.”

Speaking to IFL TV, he added: “I’m just waiting to hear when I can fight, that’s the only thing. I’ve done about four sparring sessions in about eight months, which is probably about 30 rounds so it’s been terrible.

“I’ve not trained or sparred with anybody since I came back from Las Vegas at the start of March but I’m looking forward to getting back into it.”
