Dundee Tramways have in recent months got into a very serious financial position and the ratepayers will shortly be faced with another increase in fares or Parliamentary powers will have to be obtained to place the tramways on the municipal rates. The accounts of the department are now being made up and The Courier was informed yesterday by a member of the Tramways Committee that it was already quite apparent the there would be serious deficit, the first it has had to encounter.

Baby frogs – tens of thousands of them – have been emerging from the pond at Douglas Park, Scone, over the past few days. Strollers were amazed to find the paths and bankings around the pond carpeted with thousands of black creatures half an inch long. It was almost impossible to take a step. Local residents were beginning to envisage a plague as the frogs continued their migration in all directions. Dr Cotton, lecturer in biological sciences at Dundee University, said it was a fairly unusual occurrence.

Brilliant sunshine welcomed the Vauxhall Ultra 30s Grand Prix to Dundee. Crowds of several hundred lined Riverside Drive from early morning until the racing, between six ultra-light yachts, finished shortly after 3pm. Event director Phil Jones said the day was a great success and that the Tay had “exceeded all expectations. Everything about it was perfect” The yachts were craned on to the water shortly before 11am for the start of the racing, just as the incoming tide whipped up a keen sea breeze.

Parking bosses have been warned that they will never again be allowed to harass motorists with impunity. Addressing a meeting of the British Parking Association, Pete Wishart said the war that raged between drivers and private parking firms in Perth had led him to back recently-passed legislation. The MP campaigned against tactics used by firms in Perth, including Kinnoull Street multi-storey car park operators Smart Parking. The firm was criticised after introducing a new system of payment meters.
