Mrs Elsie Taylor, Sibbald Street, Dundee, who will be 97 this month, has won a contest organised by a wool firm to find the country’s oldest knitter. She specialises in multi-coloured patchwork effect cushions which she delights in presenting to friends and relatives and which now brighten homes as far away as New Zealand and Australia. Remarkably alert and spry for her years, Mrs Taylor loves her knitting. From morning to night her needles click away happily and she says she has knitted “cartloads” of socks.
