The McManus to reopen next month with new exhibitions
The McManus will reopen on Thursday August 20.
The museum, which closed earlier this year because of coronavirus, will introduce measures to help ensure social distancing is adhered to.
Two new exhibitions will welcome visitors back – A Love Letter to Dundee: Joseph McKenzie Photographs 1964-1987 and Time and Tide: The Transformation of the Tay.
The Joseph McKenzie exhibition will shine a light on the Dundee of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. Black-and-white photographs will show the changing fortunes of the city and its people.
Time and Tide looks at the influence of the Tay on Dundee, and vice versa.
The exhibition looks at how the growth of the city, particularly along the waterfront, has affected the Tay, its wildlife and the people who live here.
From early settlement to industrial giant, to post-industrial leisure destination, the waterfront continues to recycle and reinvent itself.
Sinclair Aitken, chairman of Leisure and Culture Dundee, said: “This is more positive news for cultural tourism in the city, as the reopening of The McManus will encourage even more people to spend time in the city centre.”
Billy Gartley, head of Cultural
Services at Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “The McManus has long been a Dundonian favourite. With two outstanding new exhibitions we can’t wait to welcome you back.”
Both exhibitions premier on the August reopening day.
The Time and Tide exhibition runs until April 2021 and Joseph McKenzie’s photographs will be on display until October 2021.
